Quiz 4

2) Yes, the course met the learning outcomes in the class syllabus. For learning outcomes 1, 2, and 3, we read the text, which gave us a better understanding of world history and discussions and active group work helped as well. For learning outcomes 4 and 5, we had debates to demonstrate familiarity with historical literature and weight and interpret evidence to be able and present a sustained argument supported by historical evidence. For learning outcome 6, it was fulfilled through active group participation and through the reading analysis. For learning outcome 7, we fulfilled that one through our research paper.

3) Modern Western Humanistic Civilizations began to collapse during the 20th century because European caste systems gradually went away. New castes began to take way in merchants, bankers and bureaucrats and they were able to increase their wealth and power. Also, the American Revolution in 1776 and the French Revolution in 1789 contributed to the collapse as well. These two revolutions killed off the traditional European caste system, and replaced it with a hierarchy based on the private ownership of capital. No, the collapse has not been amended because capitalism is still making the richer rich and the poorer poor. If it was amended I feel that third world countries would not be suffering from basic necessities such as water, and food.

4) Yes, we are moving to new historical era because things are changing rapidly. For example, technology has come a long way and it is part of our everyday lives now. Some of the items listed under “post-modern” reflect the world we live in today and the future we seem to be working toward. Take the regulation of capitalism, for example, we regulate it because the government wants to exercise a level of control over what a person can do with their property or how they run a business. I believe the government does this to improve product quality and improve working conditions. Also, I do see environmental sustainability an important issue and we are making great progress. To illustrate, we are moving towards electric cars now instead of gas. Furthermore, I see the future as more technology based. We are working on self-driving cars such as Uber’s, Google cars, and Tesla’s. We will probably be driven around by machines one day. However, technology could be replacing humans in the workforce. For example, fast food restaurants may decide to eliminate cashiers and replace them with a machines were you could place your order on a touchscreen and insert cash or card. In any case, the changes we are currently experiencing is driving us towards a new historical era.
